Produce for the people

The Village de L’Est Green Growers Initiative, commonly called the VEGGI Farmers Cooperative, an initiative under Sông Community Development Corporation (Sông CDC) focused on food justice and urban job development in New Orleans East. Rooted in post-Hurricane Katrina recovery, VEGGI connects local farmers with residents through subscription-based CSA boxes filled with fresh produce. The Veggi farmers, Cảnh Ngô, Xuân Nguyễn, & LB Burton, spent their Saturday weeding, planting, and watering. The Sông team, Maddy Garn, Maddy’s dad Lamar Edwards and Ami Truong, crafted the CSA boxes and delivered them to subscription members ensuring that fresh, local food reaches the community.
